Garlic naan is another Indian staple. This soft and chewy flatbread is easy to make and goes with all your favorite Indian dishes.
Ingredients
⅛ cup warm water
½ tbs sugar
½ package of active dry yeast
6 tbs warm milk
6 tbs plain yogurt
2 cups all-purpose flour
½ tsp Kosher salt
½ stick melted butter, for brushing
2 cloves minced garlic
Fresh cilantro, to top
Instructions
In a large glass measuring cup, combine the yeast, sugar, and water. Let it sit until it becomes foamy, about 10 min or so.
In a large bowl, mix the flour and salt together, and create a well in the center.
Whisk in warm milk, and yogurt into the yeast mixture.
Pour the mixture into the well within the dry ingredients. Mix until a dough is formed and place on a lightly floured surface.
Knead the dough until it is smooth, about 4 minutes and transfer to a lightly oiled bowl and cover with a damp kitchen towel. Let sit for 1 hour.
Preheat the oven to 150 degrees. This will be to keep the naan warm in between each batch.
Knead the dough again after resting, on a lightly floured surface. Form into a disc shape and cut the dough in 6 equal sized pieces. Roll each of the pieces into a ball.
Roll out each of the pieces until it is about 6 inches wide, and ¼ inch thick. Brush the dough with melted butter before placing it into the skillet.
Heat a large skillet over medium heat. Cook the naan until bubbles form on the surface, and it starts to brown, about 2-4 minutes. Butter the top facing side and flip and cook the other side following the same parameters.
Store the naan on a baking sheet within a hand towel in the oven to keep warm.
Mince the garlic, and add to the melted butter bowl. Microwave for 10-15 seconds.
Brush the warm naan with the garlic butter and garnish with lots of chopped cilantro
Serve warm and enjoy!
